So it’s another day and the stats for Victoria/Melbourne aren’t the best, but aren’t the worst.
Wait! Strike that!
They are pretty…. well I want to say the word “grim” but that’s the current favourite word of the moment of NewsCorp (EWWWW) and other media outlets, and I really don’t want to even think about or associate with most of such media outlets.
So what word is accurate?
Well, that’s the million dollar question. I suppose it comes down to perspective. For example, my father currently resides in Deniliquin. Now for most of the pandemic Deni, with its population of circa 8,000 people have managed to have NO cases of Covid-19; which is amazing. However in the last week and a half this has sadly changed. With certainty I can say they’ve had at least 3 cases, with one being transfer to a Melbourne based hospital (thanks NSW not!), and according to statistics there’s now 6 cases of COVID-19 in the Edward River Local Government Area (LGA), of which it covers Deni. Looking at these raw statistics to place it in perspective it shows that Deni has had an incredible run and still is- the growth to 6 isn’t immediate according to the statistics I’ve seen, so one could reasonable assume there there’s no exponential growth in the numbers (the next few days will tell too). Additionally, all the affected people are in home isolation and not out in the community so ther there is that.
Now to Melbourne/Victoria.
In the sate, in the last 24 hours to Thursday 7th October, there has been 1638 new cases, which is 7 consecutive days of cases over 1,000 cases- this means we now have 15,074 active cases (not too long ago I was laughing at the fact we were at 6,666).
The hard bit is to try to not get angry or upset- which is easier said then done!
Locally (to me anyway), in the Hobsons Bay LGA we have 276 new cases (up 40!), with active cases at 1,336. Breaking it down (as much as possible), to my suburb- well it’s a few suburbs as I can only get it down to the postcode which is 3028-we have 23 new cases, for a total of 117 active cases, which appears to only be going up!
It’s hard not to at least be apprehensive over this- I’m not going to lie and on the days that I’m not working (damn being essential) I try not to leave the house at all; on the odd occasion I was it was literally dodging all the coividiots wearing either no mask or under the nose.
It’s frustrating because it all boils down to the one thing I’ve been saying- no one is enforcing the rules so it’s lip becoming pointless to believe people will do the right thing.
I guess all we can do is take it one day at a time.
