Doctor Who

Doctor Who Experience

Despite it being five years since we visiedt the Doctor Who Experience (DWE), I can still remember it like it was yesterday and I can remember that as soon as I got there I almost burst into tears of joy- LOL!!

For those that know me, I’m a massive science fiction fan and in particular Doctor Who, both Old Who and New Who. When this holiday was in its planning stages this was the one big thing I wanted to no, not because it’s Doctor Who but because I knew that there were plans to close it (which it subsequently did not long afterwards).

From the outside, the DWE appeared to be nothing more then a big standard museum set in a massive factory; the only signs were a few Doctor Who signs set against the TARDIS blue of the factory. Even from the inside the entrance area wasn’t too exciting; containing the bog standard cafe along with the admission desk and gift shop. To be honest it took a lot of will not to go crazy in the gift shop- I was literally in heaven!

The DWE starts with you having to go on a mission with the doctor and ends with you entering the museum; that’s probably the easiest way to describe it. All I can really remember is that the costumes and props were simply amazing; it’s one thing to see it on the TV but totally another to see it in person and appreciate the details that the props department put into everything.

Below is a few pictures from it- it’s hard to post the food or favourite ones because they were all amazing.

Costumes of the Paternoster Gang- Jenny, Madam Vastra and Drax the Sontaran (aka a talking potato!) Very very detailed and quite awesome

Costumes belong to some of the Doctors from Classic Who- (L to R) we have Tom Baker and his magnificent 12 foot long scarf, Peter Davidson and his cricketing whites with a pinch of chemical sensing celery(!) and Colin Baker and his “amazing” outfit …

New Who Costumes- from left to right is Doctors numbers 8, 9, 10 and 11- if you notice similar outfits for Doctors 8 and 9, contrasted with the later doctors.

A new take on an old foe- wasn’t liked too much in the fandom but I didn’t think they were THAT bad.
