So the world is slowly- well at least in my part of the world- very slowly reopening after extended lockdown(s) all over and it makes my realise that this is the perfect time to talk about compassion.
Unless you’re a multi billionaire, I think it’s safe to say that generally, on the whole, the human species has had a very hard time of things lately. We’ve all been cut off from the people we love and care about, our lives have been turned upside down and our normal everyday routines haven’t been seen in a VERY long time. I think it’s safe to sat that for a lot of us, we’ve reached (or about to reach) the end of our “normal” tethers.
With this in mind, it’s well worth a reminder to us that we all should be speaking to practice compassion on a regular basis.
Compassion can be practiced in different forms. For example, we can show compassion to ourselves by realising that it’s ok not to be ok and taking time out for ourselves. Another example is by being kind and compassionate to each other- we’ve all been in a cocoon not of our own fault and like a butterfly emerging; we’re about to find ourselves in a cacophony of experiences and encounters that previously we could have encountered on a regular basis, that we now find a strange thing. It’s like a form of shell shock- and if not handled carefully could have dire consequences.
Having said that, compassion is the way forward. We need to maintain what makes ourselves so beautiful; that is our understanding, empathy and compassion, so that if we find ourselves or someone struggling, we are there to help them move forward. And that can simply be something as simple as a smile or a joke and a laugh, or even reaching out to make sure others know that we are there for them.
It’s in the act of compassion that we truly define ourselves- by showing our compassion it shows that we are human and we care; that despite the shite we’ve been through in the last 2 years that we will regain our footing and continue to grow and shine.
For compassion is about being true to ourselves and the human spirit- and that trueness is that we will look forward to growing and being better- for we shall reach out our hands in solidarity to help our bothers and sisters become stronger individuals.
